The Impending Doom tee is a heavy-weight boxy tee rendered in a substantial 11 oz, 100% cotton. Each tee is lovingly hand-dyed with black acid-wash treatment by a woman owned and operated wash house in Compton. The Impending Doom graphic was commissioned for Strike Oil and features artwork by Archive.pdf. The piece is a commentary on the way that capitalism preys on the most vulnerable during times of great need. We are co-opting infomercial and self-help pyramid scheme aesthetics to underline the absurdity of attempts by bad actors (as an extension of capitalism), to offer "cures" for normal expressions of the human experience such as sadness or existential dread. These "snake oil" cure-alls are part of a long-standing history of exploitation by self-help communities to profit off of despair and desperation.
